Yukigassen – Snowball Fight European Championships April 11–12 in Kemijärvi

Yukigassen Returns to Kemijärvi for the 27th Time – Experience the Most Joyful Weekend in Lapland!
Get ready for an unforgettable Arctic adventure! The European Championships of Yukigassen – the legendary Japanese snowball battle – will take place in Kemijärvi on April 11–12. Once again, our snowy arena transforms into a fast‑paced, good‑spirited, and truly one‑of‑a‑kind winter sports celebration.
What is Yukigassen?
Originating from Japan, Yukigassen is a playful yet competitive winter sport inspired by traditional snowball fights.
The name comes from the Japanese words yuki (snow) and kassen (battle). The first official match was held in Sobetsu, Japan, in 1989, and the World Championships are still hosted there every year.
Here in Kemijärvi, in the heart of Finnish Lapland, we proudly host the European Championships.
A match consists of three three‑minute periods, with only effective playing time counted.
The goal is simple:
- Hit opposing players with a snowball, or
- Capture the opponent’s flag.
It’s fast, tactical, and incredibly fun to watch – or even better, to play.
We welcome the first eight teams to sign up.
There will also be a special national team group featuring Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Austria.
