Library services

Library’s wide range of services

A library today is much more than just a place to borrow books. We offer a wide range of services that city residents can use either on their own or with the help of our staff. Feel free to ask us more!

Digi-guide

At the library, we provide digital tutoring on how to use customers’ own devices or websites/services. Book an appointment at the reserve room (varaamo.lapinkirjasto.fi) or call 040 746 0267 to make an appointment.

eLibrary

The site brings together all the electronic services offered by the library: magazines, recordings, books, films, music lessons, opera, ballet… You can also access some of the services from your home, but you will need a library card and a PIN code.

ePress and eMagz

You can read e-journals in the library on your own mobile device or on the library’s TV or on a tablet you can borrow. For example, Helsingin Sanomat and Lapin Kansa are available every day in electronic format. Ask the library for more information. The address of the service is https://pek.epress.fi. Newspapers can only be read in the library.

eMagz contains magazines that you can also read outside the library. In addition to your library card, you will need a PIN code.

Internet / Printing

The library has four patron computers for internet access. Access is free of charge. Print prices can be found on the Fees page.

Library training and meeting room

There are 11 computers in the training room. Businesses and communities can reserve space at a fee approved by the Future Committee.

You can share your own or the library’s computer screen with the big TV in the room. The room has a coffee machine, kettle and fridge. There is seating for 10 people around the meeting table, in addition to the computer tables.

The use of the space is free of charge for Kemijärvi associations. For more information, call 040 746 0267 during library opening hours or contact Varaamo directly.

Books to home service

Kemijärvi Library offers a personalised service where you can order library material to your home. The service is aimed at people who, for one reason or another, find it difficult to go to the library.

Users of the service are interviewed before they are accepted and a written contract is made for the use of the service.

The service is free of charge when borrowing material from the libraries of Lapland. The delivery of materials is agreed on a loan-by-loan basis, usually after 4 pm. At the same time, materials returned to the library will be accepted.
