History:

Kemijärven Kiekko ry, which was founded in 1978, acquired a pressurised hall on top of the rink in 1983, which allowed the team to play hockey in shelter from rain and wind. In 1986, the City of Kemijärvi built an artificial ice rink pipeline on the rink site, which it owned, and in 1987 Kemijärven Jäähalli Oy was founded, which in the same year purchased the ice rink’s refrigeration system.

Construction of the new rink started in June 2000, and the first game was played on 11 January 2001. Kemijärven Kiekko and the Kemijärven Kaukalopalloilijat ry. and their representatives did a lot of voluntary work during the construction of the hall, which amounted to about 18 000 hours. The club activities in Kemijärvi started in 1993 and curling in 2005. 4 curling courts have been painted on the concrete floor of the hall.

In 2010, the City of Kemijärvi purchased a new gas-powered ice treatment machine (Olympia Millenium 2000 A) and in 2012 a new refrigeration machine from Suomen Tekojää Oy.
