Central Electoral Commission
According to Section 13 of the Electoral Act (714/98), the council must appoint a municipal central election committee for its term of office.
The municipal central election commission consists of a chairman, a vice-chairman and three other members, plus the necessary number of deputy members, but there must be at least five. The alternates shall be appointed in the order in which they replace the members.
Both members and alternates shall, as far as possible, be representative of the electoral groups which stood as candidates in the previous municipal elections in the municipality.
In order for the members and deputy members of the central municipal election committee to represent the electoral groups that nominated candidates in the previous municipal elections, one representative must be elected from each electoral group.
As long as any single group of voters is unrepresented, no two representatives from the other group may be elected to the central electoral commission.
